This summer (after Christmas) I'm going on a 2 week holiday with my family and we are trying to decide between Tassie or NZ. I have never been to either, and will probably not get another chance for quite a while. so which would you recommend and why?

Having been to Tasmania earlier this year it's the best. It really depends on your budget and needs. I drove to Melbourne and took the ferry across and used my own car, it is absolutely the best way to travel there. Tasmania is still part of Australia (duh hehe) so no need to worry about medical insurance, changing currency visas, getting prescriptions for meds (if you take any) and the like. I'd like to visit NZ myself but don't want the hassle, or added expense, associated with international air travel, not to mention I'd rather see my own beautiful country first. I went after Christmas myself and got snowed on whilst atop Mt Wellington (near Hobart) on New Years Day, that was a real highlight of the trip....as well as the wonderful fresh food.

Even though i think Australia is way more awesome than our Australia wanna be neighbor, i suggest you go to NewZealand as it will be more exciting to go to another country.
