Thinking December 2010 to End January 2011
Want stopovers LA possibly on way out and coming back as a round world trip so maybe Singapore.
Would really love to cruise home the last section but might be too expensive.

I don't want to have injections as I do not tolerate them well

What is the best airline too?

There's no direct flights from the UK to NZ, so you will be stopping over, the port of stopovers are usually LA, Hong Kong or Singapore. Whichever stopever you take depends on which airline you use.

If you want comfort as well as exceptional service, then Emirates is a great airline to choose but Air NZ is also substantially good.

You will not need any injections, aside from the one the person above mentioned i.e. heparin. That is ideally a good choice, seeing as you will enduring two long haul flights, alternatively you can get the compression stockings to wear during the flight, some airlines provide those.

End of january would be best as the weather hopefully will be good although NZ weather is unpredictable. The prices for accomodation will be better as the school holidays would have finished. No you don't need injections. If you want a round the world ticket the go Star alliance they are a group of airlines that include Air New Zealand and Singapore air plus others. I have used them they where very good I actually booked mine through Air New zealand but you can book through any of their airlines One world which includes British airways and Qantas are more expensive. You have a choice of a 3 stop or 5 stop the later being a bit more expensive. If you want cheaper then dont get a round the world ticket you can still have a stopover but only one choice of Country. Singapore airlines was by far the most comfortable flight. they had foot rests on my flight which made a huge difference.

You'll find that New Zealand weather tends to be warmer and more settled between February and March than in December and January, especially if you also want to include the South Island.

I've been living in Otago for years, and it has never been a good summer until at least late January, mid-February so far.

Airlines: I always pick Quantas or El Al. They appear to be the safest.

Injections: Do get a Heparin injection, I urge you. I nearly succumbed to a deep vein thrombosis a few months ago on a flight to Singapore. It's not to be taken lightly.

You would need a "round the world"ticket or you will probably need to fly with different airlines, but try www.expedia.com.

Air New Zealand flies through LA and Singapore Airlines flies through Singapore. Both are good airlines.

Cruises are pricey, but you will have to look them up, as there are a few that do the islands (eg pacific islands).

You don't need immunisations for NZ

The best weather would be Jan and Feb. December tends to be up and down temp wise, but we don't get THAT cold!!!

Where are starting from? If it's the UK/Europe then it's not actually necessary to buy a 'round the world' ticket as Air NZ flies round the world and you can simply purchase your ticket to reflect that (so LHR - LAX - AKL then the return ticket AKL -somewhere in Asia - LHR.

I would go a little later as well - February or March. February is generally lovely anywhere around the country.

If you want to take a cruise somewhere one idea would be to look into Cruises either in Asia or in the US (Alaska or from San Diego/LA down around Mexico and back).

You seem to be answering your own question and telling us what you are doing.

January is peak summer in New Zealand.

Air New Zealand is a good airline with the most comprehensive selection of routes to New Zeland which probably isn't too much of a surprise. It's also ATW airline of the year 2010.
