Question:
Why won't Australia submit more troops to Iraq? Don't they realize that this will prevent terrorism?

While I do like John Howard (He's a fine man and I understand he has kept immigration and gay marriage in check), it's appalling that he has not sent more of Australia's troops to Iraq. There are only 1,300 of them, we Americans have 100 times that number.

There were Australians who died on September 11th, so why won't they commit to sending more? Why doesn't Australia support their troops or freedom, they are sending a dangerous message that their protection from terrorism is more important than the deaths of a few soldiers. Enough with the greed and short-sightedness already.

G'day,

YES!!! Of course.... send more troops to Iraq and leave Australia wide open without any defences. Please... just look after your household, don't interfere with your 'partner' household.

Did you lose anyone you know in 9/11? If you did, imagine the feeling that the other people like you in Iraq have when the ppl they know also perish in the war and instabilities caused by the invasion. Do you like other country's military troops just storm your country, b'cos the leader does not agree with your country's leader?

This is a war that will only emerge losers, not winners. The allies have been given misleading information by The American President & his men, and we are paying for it.

However I do praise the conduct and act that have been shown by Australian troops in Iraq and everywhere in the world. May God protect and bless them all and their families, and hope that they will come home safely.

Have a good day...

Humbug. Iraq had almost nothing to do with terrorism until the country was unjustly invaded by that swine John Winston Howard, that liar Tony Blair and that fool George Bush.

You have no idea of the opposition to the war in this country. The government and some of their smarmy money men friends support it but I have not listened to that bunch of liars and arrogant crooks in years. The government are likely to be kicked out at the end of this year, long past time, unless of course they can find some issue to lie about just before the election, so the bogans and xenophobic thickheads will vote for them. With a bit of luck Howard will lose his place in Parliament.

The Australians were brave in Gallipoli, quite some time before the USA joined that noble struggle, just like in WW2, Australians fought bravely before the USA joined that struggle. Well done to the brave Australian and US troops, and at last the US has been prepared to stop at least one dictator from spreading evil abroad. Pity the Kurds / Kuwaitis / innocent Iraqis who died while they waited to do something in Iraq.

"prevent terroirsm"? You tell that to the people in Spain and London. You got troops there and they still got killed.

Terrorism is not about Iraq. Terrorism is everywhere.

Yes, the troops are getting blown up by insurgents in Iraq - but that is NOT terrorism. That is WAR in Iraq.

I am neutral in my opinion whether we should or should not send troops to Iraq but your reason for the question is very ill-informed and lack reasoning. And to try involve the people who died on 9/11 as a justification to your question is an disgrace and insult to all Australians. I am sure there are Kenyans, Portuguese, Chinese, Koreans, South Africans, Indian, Russians and a lot more nationalities who died then too, why don't you ask THEM to send troops in?

LOL - good one mate.

I can't believe everyone fell for this troll. Just have a look at the guy's name.

But, to answer your question - if we committed more troops to Iraq they could get hurt and then the Man-of-Steel would lose the next election. That's why all our troops over there do nothing except guard the embassy and venture out occasionally to get some takeaway food for the ambassador.

Y'all have a nice day there.

Population of the USA - 300 million plus

Population of Australia - 20 million

You do the math.

Yes Australians died on Sep 11th, what does Iraq have to do with that? Iraq is about oil, plain and simple it has nothing to do with stopping terrorism.

The continued occupation of Iraq is creating more terrorists then Al Queada could have ever hoped to recruit.

I really feel sorry for ignorant, brainwashed fools like yourself. Why is it that so many of your fellow Americans, not to mention the rest of the world, can see through GW's lies but people like you can't.

So the place is your evidence? only asserting so does not make it so. i will tell shifting thoughts approximately how fanatical terrorists have spilled the blood of innocents and blown up their own human beings...blah blah blah. Destruction, conflict, soreness, terror, hatred, oppression, rhetoric, this is all evil, no count who's doing it. there is fairly no "reliable or righteous" factor here. that's a conflict of religions, appreciate, and freedoms. You ask the question with such rhetoric, such hatred, what variety of answer do you assume? I want the worldwide might only awaken and understand that there are reliable human beings everywhere, if we only take it sluggish to look. That conflict is illogical and counterproductive. the issue is that no person will yield, because of the fact it is going to likely be considered as a weak spot, so we proceed this vicious cycle, and specific will invariably. regrettably, the single courageous person who does attempt to yield and compromise will in all probability be taken great thing approximately via the evil people who think of their way is right. Why will not be able to we only stay in our perspective worldwide places and go away everybody on my own?

Um, I hope you're not being serious, for your own sake. John Howard is practically the only person in Australia who approves of the war...unfortunately he is also the Prime Minister.

Why do you think Kevin Rudd, the current leader of the Opposition is the most popular Opposition leader Australia has ever seen? Not only is he not pompous, arrogant, and self absorbed, but unlike John Howard, he actually embodies the values and ideas the majority of Australians have. Another reason he is so popular is because if he wins the election he will bring the troops out of Iraq.

John Howard has been George W. Bush's puppet for too long and Australians are sick of it.

As for your comment that you approve of John Howard keeping gay marriage in check - well, lets just say that your proving yourself to be the stereotypical bigoted, homophobic, war-mongering American Republican that us Australians have learned to detest so much.

hmm , typical american.

Our military is stretched to the limit. Our troops are currently serving in Afghanistan, East Timor, Solomon Islands, Iraq, and keep Naval Patrols in the North as we dont have a coast guard like you do. We also have peace keepers in other parts of the world.

You forget that we have a small population and, you are also not aware, that our military are trained to do more than what yours are, eg, a radio operator can do more than just man a radio which is what the US miltary do.

OUr 1300 men/women is the equivalent to about 8000 US troops anyway, so get your facts right and pull your head out of your backside.

Australia has a mere population of 20 million people. We already have military helping to keep peace in East Timor, the Solomon Islands and Afghanistan and probably in other parts of the world to a smaller degree. Do you expect us to send our children and our elderly to fight for a war that most Australians don't even agree with?

You are entitled to your opinion but I would suggest that if you meet any Australians in person either as tourists in your country or if you visit our country, that you keep such opinions to yourself.

you need to remember fighting over there and killing innocent civilians in the middle east has done nothing to prevent terrorism. it's doing just the opposite, they are getting angry at us -- just look at iran.
