I have been several times and it really depends on what you are looking to do and how rushed you want to be. 11 days is a bit short in my opinion but here is what I have found on my travels. Most arrive in Sydney - 2 - 3 nts here will be plenty, 3 if you need some time to get over jet lag. You can tour the main attractions there in 1 day and if it is warm maybe hit the beach or just hang out. Many go to the Blue Mountains from here on a day trip but I wasn't overly impressed. It reminded me of the mountains in Tennessee. That being said, I didn't find much in Melbourne and wouldn't suggest it. There are some beautiful areas of coastline however in the area. Ayers Rock/Alice Springs is too far to go just to be in the Outback and to see the rock in my opinion plus it will add a lot of money onto the cost of your trip. I really enjoyed Kangaroo Island off the cost of Adelaide. You stay on the island or ferry over and is a great place to see the wildife. They have safari like tours there. You could do this in 2-3 nts. I didn't find much in Brisbane area except beach but I loved Frasier Island (the largest sand island in the world) and depesning on the time of the year, possibly whale watch in Hervey Bay. You can daytrip to the island and overnight in Hervey Bay cheaper than staying on the island. I then went to the closest island on the reef to this area which is Heron Island. You have to get to the town of Gladstone and then the island has a ferry to take you over. It is one of the only true coral islands. You can scuba or snorkel right there, hit the beach and just relax. It was a bit pricey for me but well worth it for 3 nts. Alternately you could fly up to Cairns and visit some islands on the reef on a daytrip or book a cruise through the Whitsunday Islands for 3 or 4 nts. I hope this helps.
