Hi! I'm going to Australia in December (yay!) which will be my first actual holiday, and i thought i'd get some tips on sightseeing over there by real people! I'm going to be staying with my Aunt in Townsville, Queensland from November 26th ish for 2 weeks. I'm taking my best friend over with me and if i have my driver's liscence by then, i'l rent a car, but if not i'm still willing to travel a little. I'm actually a big fan of home and away, and found out they do filming on Palm Beach, Sydney but i don't know if there's other places worth visiting. Oh yes and we're 20 years old : )
Thanks!

If you are staying in Townsville then there is plenty to see in the tropical north with Cairns, the Daintree, the Atherton Tablelands, Magnetic Island and the Great Barrier Reef. December is the start of the wet season so expect to get rained on and take care crossing flooded roads.

Brisbane is 1400km south of Townsville and Sydney is 1000km south of Brisbane if you are driving. Which airport are you flying into or out of? Townsville is not an international airport so you would be starting in Cairns, Sydney or Brisbane. If you are going to Sydney or Brisbane, plan a few days there as well as exploring the tropics from Townsville. There is plenty to see in and around Sydney, it is the largest city in Australia and sits on the world's most beautiful harbour.

Take the ferry over to magnetic island for a couple of days when you're in Townsville, hire a mini moke there and take in the sights, or chill at the beach, surf, hire a boat, go to one of the bars there. Plenty of places on the island full of people your age.

It might also be worth going further north from Townsville if you have time, check out the Whitsundays and hit up Cairns, that place is also FULL of young travellers.

take a boat trip out to the Great Barrier Reef (maybe not from Townsville, it's not that close to the shore there.

Sydney is a really, really long way by car from Townsville, over 2000 kilometres. but if you do go there, check out Bondi, Coogee, and Manly beaches and obviously the Opera House. The nightlife in King's Cross is world famous if that's what you're into.

If you drive to Sydney, be sure to check out the Sunshine Coast (Noosa, Maroochydore, Caloundra etc.), Brisbane and the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise, which are all big tourist spots. Go to some of the theme parks if you're interested.

If I was you one of the first places to go to is the Gold coast. Not only are there a number of theme parks in the area the beaches are beautiful and the surf is awesome. Also, just a little drive away from Townsville is Cairns. There you can go on the skyrail and experience the rainforest, or do a tour to the Barrier reef. You can book a trip on Quicksilver and go snorkling or diving amongst the wide array of coral and tropical fish.

To be honest there is more then enough to do between Townsville and Cairns to occupy you for 2 weeks. Do a search on Townsville and Cairns and you should be able to get plenty of information about tours and places to visit.

If you do nothing else you absolutey HAVE to do a reef tour (you go out in a boat and snorkle along the reef). It is spectacular, you can get disposable underwater cameras, buy it before your tour (they really slug you for one if you buy it on the tour).

It is unlikely that you will be able to rent a car as in Australia you need to be 1) over 21 and 2) off any probationary license - which in Australian means more than 3 years driving experience. If you dont have your license now - you will not have the necessary driving experience under your belt by November.

Sydney is the most beautiful harbour city in the world. So if you have enough time to spend there, just make a cruise in the Harbour. It will give a clear picture of Sydney harbour. Also There are lots of sightseeing cruises(with food and without food) in Sydney harbour.

It relies upon the place in Australia... yet rather it somewhat is not too warm. January is plenty warmer!! in case you're making plans on traveling the captivating Sydney.. then December temps will variety between 25 ranges Celcius and 35 ranges... yet November will usually be approximately 2 or 3 ranges cooler.. desire that helps!

Gold coast is fantastic, and further north to the barrier reef is amazing.

I took a 2 day trip from Gladstone to heron island, bliss, and all inclusive.

You can see it on google map

Townsville to sydney - 2100kms, it's a vast country with loads of traffic cops!
