You have a very good budget for your NZ honeymoon. It's hard to guess what type of moon you want- adrenaline, romantic, see everything, go slowly etc. But a great place to start is newzealand.com. They have a travel planner that will help you organize all the different activities you want to do.
If you want personal help from people in the know- call Springboard (no I don't work for them). 866.447.7746 or www.springboardvacations.com . They'll make sure you have all your wishes included in your special trip.
My favorites: scuba diving in Pahia (Bay of Island- North Island), Rotorua mud baths and hot springs, Abel Tasman National Park, Waiheke Wine Country (just a short ferry from Auckland), Whale watching, Glacier Trek, Langham Hotels, TranzAlpine Railroad!
Congratulations!
Eg: recent honeymooner too!

You have a great budget! I live in NZ, but recently lived in London for four years. I was disgusted at the prices I saw charged for things in London for NZ travel. When you take the exchange rate into consideration you will often be able to get things cheaper if you go to smaller retailers, or if you book things once you get here. The Bay of Islands is tremendously romantic and a very good place to start. I'd also go with Queenstown for a honeymoon (that was where I had my first honeymoon). If you want help on the Bay of Islands then try emailing the guys at www.boiholidays.co.nz they should be able to help you.
