I got a letter today in the mail telling my parents that I was invited to go to Australia in the summer of 2010. So, I was wondering if the costs and such are reasonable? And if someone had like a first-hand experience or something? And is it like easy to enjoy it with everybody that you travel with? Oh. And is there a difference between being nominated and invited?

I got asked to go on a trip like that...but it was to Europe. So its kinda similar. I went on the trip about 6 weeks ago and it is so worth it. the trip cost me around $5,000 but thats nothing when you realize all you will get to see and experience, not to mention the friendships you will make. don't pass up an opportunity like that. it may not come around again. oh and i would encourage both you and your parents attend the meeting. they answer all the questions that you will have.

You do realise that your summer is our winter.

I'd suggest you do some research because the P to P trip is very overpriced.

You don't need to do anything to be "invited".

They buy the names of prospective students from a national list service -- the American Student List.

In fact you don't even have to be alive to be invited.

First the parents of two deceased children received letters, now the "parents" of a deceased cat received that same letter from the organization.

There is information on how it all works at: People To People Student Ambassador Programs. Click the blue.

You pay your $95 registration fee, go through the interview process and then look at the website for the fund raising ideas. Access to this part of the website is only granted after you pay the $95 dollars and 'pass' the interview. Then you pay another $1000. It seems if you pull out there is no refund and the actual People to People website tells you nothing that is helpful.

I've received one of those letters before. I attended the meeting but unfortunately did not go on the trip. At the meeting they said it would cost $4,000 including travel expenses. I live on the east coast so I would have to take a plane to Los Angelos, Ca and then to Sydney, Australia.
