I am traveling to New Zealand in March for two weeks and I love to experience the people and their customs so would like a little local insight if anyone is willing. Thanks!

You have picked the BEST month to come to New Zealand. Rotorua is a must for the Maori culture, for the geysers and hot pools and bubbling mud, trout streams and visitor attractions. Auckland is the largest city - but really doesn't have much different to any other city. Wellington is beautiful - like a miniature of San Francisco. The Bay of Islands is beautiful. Depends on if you are from Australia or America. If you are from Oz, then you don't really need to see our beaches and waterways because they don't compare to Australia's. Nevertheless Aussies love the "colour" of this country - where the green is greener and the sky is bluer. Best would be to fly into Auckland and then go down to Rotorua. The scenery is beautiful if you are driving or going by bus down there.

You can visit shearing sheds & watch sheep being shorn.
Apart from that there is not much else to see.

You can check this blog: http://goaustralia.about.com/b/2007/03/23/are-five-days-enough-to-see-the-south-island.htm
It will guide you where to go and how much time it will take.
