My most highy reccomended tourist destination in South Australia is the little known area and towns of Ororroo and Pekina. It is just near the Flinders Ranges and about a 4 hour drive from Adelaide. The area is a picturesque historical masterpiece and, although I have travelled all around Australia, this is the best kept secret when it comes to tourist destination. There is a small town a couple of k's outside of Ororroo called Pekina. If you're having a family holiday, consider bringing the family (up to 30 people) up to Pekina to stay in their makeshift bed and breakfast, The Presbytery. Its often used to accomodate schools and groups on retreat. It has a mess hall and bench type tables. It's really cheap, and although the facilities aren't 5 star, living this way is fantastic! It's good to get away from tv and sit around an indoor bonfire with your friends and relatives, play pool or a board game or get outside and ride bikes around the area. It's a great destination for large groups looking for a relaxing, wholesome holiday. There's also lots of great free things to do in the local area - towns nearby have great destinations such as Alligator Gorge, The Giant Gum Tree and Magnetic Hill. Pekina and Ororroo are great destinations for families or groups who want to go on a holiday together without blowing the budget. I would highly reccomend this place for large groups, as smaller groups may find they begin to get cabin fever. A 40th Birthday or even 21st would be made all the more memorable by a trip to the Pekina Pub and an overnight stay at the local presbytery.

Mt Tambourine has a whole street of shops that are all awesome! It is also a great place to get wine! If you head down the hill a little there is a place called Thunderbird park. While you're there you can get a mining permit and mine for crystallized Thunderbird eggs. After wards you could go to the Adventure park (same place pretty much) a do a high wire coarse where you get to wear the most sexy jumpsuits ever. There is also a horse trail ride facility where riders of all experiences can jump on a horse and go for a trail ride. If you want a delicious meal there is a small restaurant in the same area. Apart from Thunderbird park you could head all the way down the hill to Canungra. There is a lovely little caf'e called the outpost caf'e which has yummy stuff. If you keep going you can visit Beaudesert. If you come to Beaudesert soon you can see our local Country and Horse Festival. There are activities happening everyday for a week, from the 6th to the 15th of June. If you come it would be fun to see the thousand hooves in the big parade going right through the middle of town. All of the stuff I have mentioned, I have done personally, and I had a lot of fun and so did m

Darwin Australia.

Darwin is the tropical capital city of Australia’s Northern Territory.

Darwin has a relaxed outdoor lifestyle and enjoys warm weather all year round. Perched on a peninsula with sea on three sides, Darwin is an excellent base to explore the natural attractions of World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, Litchfield and Nitmiluk National Parks, the Tiwi Islands and Arnhem Land.

Darwin was founded as Australia’s most northerly harbour port in 1869, and its population rapidly expanded after the discovery of gold at nearby Pine Creek in 1871. World War II put Darwin on the map as a major allied military base for troops fighting the Japanese in the Pacific.

Today travellers can see evidence of Darwin’s World War II history at a variety of preserved sites including ammunition bunkers, airstrips and oil tunnels in and around the city. Darwin again made world news when the city was rebuilt in the wake of Cyclone Tracy in 1974 - an event well documented at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

Its colourful history has contributed to Darwin’s cultural diversity - more than 50 nationalities make up its 100,000 population, including the area's traditional landowners, the Larrakia Aboriginal people. The cultural and culinary benefits of such a melting pot are best experienced at Darwin's weekly markets, variety of restaurants and through the annual calendar of festivals and other Darwin events.

Sydney has several popular museums. The biggest are the Australian Museum (natural history and anthropology), the Powerhouse Museum (science, technology and design), the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Australian National Maritime Museum.

Sport in Sydney is an important part of the culture. The area is well endowed with open spaces and access to waterways, and has many natural areas even within the city centre. Within the Sydney central business district are the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Hyde Park, The Domain and the Royal Botanical Gardens. The metropolitan area contains several national parks, including the Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world and several parks in Sydney's far west which are part of the World Heritage listed Greater Blue Mountains Area.[53]

One of the most popular sports in Sydney is Rugby League. The sport was brought from England to Sydney before expanding to the rest of Australia. The city is home to nine of the sixteen teams in the National Rugby League domestic competition. These are Canterbury Bulldogs, Cronulla Sharks, Manly Sea Eagles, Penrith Panthers, Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs, St George Illawarra Dragons, Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers. Despite the final of the 2008 Rugby League World Cup being held in Brisbane, Sydney will host eight World Cup games including one of the Semi-Finals.

Sydney Online will help you plan your holiday by providing information on accommodation, things to do, sights to see, places to eat, for getting around this beautiful harbour city at your own pace, and much more. You can also book accommodation, entertainment, tours, venues or events, hire a car or book a restaurant - all online from our site.

Tasmania.

It's really simple really. I was down there a few weeks ago for a week long holiday, and may I just say, a week was not enough. The scenery is amazing - I know, brown grass on the mainland is nice to look at too, it is not a tourist heap and there is variety in what to do.

Now, as a 17 year old male, I enjoyed the historical aspects of Tasmania - so if I can, so can you!

I would however suggest you bring friends along with you, I think it is more suited for group travel. Of course, it would be enjoyable by yourself, but friends make it unforgettable.

WA: Kalgoorlie, Leonora, Leinster, Kambalda, Coolgardie... I grew up in Kambalda West so I am biased but if you have been all over Oz I would definately recommend these places. They are the heart of WA (and the money maker of WA).

In Kalgoorlie, you can visit the Super Pit. You can visit 20 pubs in an hour and meet the locals from all walks of life. Ride a camel, stay in A frame motel and of course experience Two-Up and pan for gold... (I have to say, the Broadwater in Kalgoorlie is the best place to stay.)

Take a drive 50km out and you experience first hand a ghost town, Coolgardie. Once a bustling community, now a legend in tales. Coolgardie has everything, history and sites...

For the rest, everywhere around Kalgoorlie is magical. 4 hours away and you have working stations in the middle of a desert, people that drive trucks twice the size of your house and a community that every city envies.

I now live in Perth but every year I holiday to Kal, not just to see friends but for the atmosphere... It's amazing how I always saw Kalgoorlie/Kambalda as a place I could never let go of because I grew up there, but now I see it as something so much more. Around every corner there is something different.

PS: Grant, you can race a V8 there... We have Speed Way and a concrete block there to do burn outs... Good Luck!

Places to stay: Broadwater Apartments (Kalgoorlie)

Places to shop: Smales Jewellery (Hannan St, Kalgoorlie)

Places to visit: unlimited. Whatever you want, you get.

I live in Australia, I can answer but it matters what you are looking for.

Here in Gold Coast well it's relaxing and there are themeparks. Northern Teritory and Western Australia are amazing but be careful in the desert, Australia is almost the size of USA, even though it may not seem that big.

I wouldn't go to Sydney because it's not that great but for a tourist i'm not sure. Definatly don't go to Melbourne, it has gangs and is not very interesting.

If you want snow which I doubt someone would come to Australia for that, go to Canberra.

If you want beaches go to QLD or NSW.

Yer pretty much it, im not sure im only 14 and I don't know what your intentions here are.

Hi Grant

Miss you since you left Sunrise...!

The most amazing place to visit is the "Valley of the Giants" just out of Walpole Western Australia. The Karri trees are hundreds of years old and feel like they are whispering to you as you walk through them. There is an awesome energy there! When we went a few years ago, they had a guy set up right in the middle of the walk playing medievil music on a steel guitar that floated throughout the valley like a mysterious dream...the rest of the world just didn't exist!

You need to stay at the Peaceful Bay Caravan Park! They are awsome people who bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. Both times we have camped there we have run into travelling bands..being able to join in with a live jam with such creative and intuitive people just makes the stay all the more special.

GO TO VALLEY OF THE GIANTS!!

Best of luck to you and your wife Grant.

Personally I can't go past south-east QLD, the sunshine coast is wonderful for chilling out, great surfing and quaint beach side towns full of fun things to do, like Montville.

The Gold Coast has some great casinos including this awesome stage show - "Dracula" which is sort of a Rocky Horror Show take off. Hilarious and a great time.

Brisbane city is always a laugh with some great nightclubs, the conrad casino, and a burlesque club.

All over Australia is great fun for a holiday, hope you have a great time!

I don't travel much but my logic is this seeing as it's cold it's best to go somewhere warm probably NT, WA or QLD would be the best options, or if you like the cold the southern states are best this time of year, it's snow season in the victorian mountains at the moment, however if it's during the warmer months you want to go on holiday there is a nice area in victoria in the mountains, my favourite place for holidays is a town called Bright, there's swimming, fishing, camping spots, wineries, plenty of sunshine, during autumn they have what's called the autumn festival where all the leaves fall frfom the huge maple trees they have everywhere a good place to stay is Bright caravan and camping park http://www.brightcaravanpark.com.au/ don't be put off by the name they have some nice cabins so you don't neccesarily have to slum it in a tent or caravan lol click that link and check out the photo gallery it's a nice area you won't be disappointed.

Yes, we have hotels, motels etc of world standard but there is also economy accommodation avaliable. I doubt your family will have time to be bored while here. There are things for the kids where ever you go. We have children to keep occupied too. There is no need to go specifically to the Yahoo Answers Australia site. I'm on Yahoo Australia and your question has appeared here. If I ask a question it will also appear on the US, British, Canadian etc sites. After all this is the World Wide Web. Also our winter in Queensland is approximately the same as Summer in the UK. Have a great holiday.

Hey Grant. I think you should travel to the most friendly, most beautiful town in all of Victoria, maybe even the WORLD, Warragul!!

It's where Melbourne gets it's milk, so you know it's good.

Some highlights include 'Civic Park' (so beautiful), 'showgrounds' (hamish blake was there one time!!), 'Coles supermarket', and all of the local people.

Of course, there are nearby towns with many other things to see.

I must stress that this part of Gippsland really is amazing. I've lived here for a long, long time and I'm never failed to be awed by it's spectacular beauty.

In all seriousness, in West Gippsland there are numerous places in which you can stay, whilst experiencing the clean, fresh country atmosphere. Some friends of my family from inner Melbourne came up this way and stayed on a Vineyard just for a week, and they LOVED it. And I qoute "It was amazing waking up to such a fresh, beautiful day. It rained only once, and even then it was still amazing."

SO. come here.

Definitely Tasmania. The wilderness is just spectacular, and Cradle Mountain is a must-see. Also the Freycinet Peninsula, Flinders Island and Bruny Island. Summer is probably the best time to go.

The cities of Launceston and Hobart have a lot of attractions such as museums, art galleries, great restaurants and festivals. www.discovertasmania.com is a good place to start.

Happy travels!

Flake out on sun-drenched beaches, eat at award-winning restaurants and a great deal more is what you would get on your own trip to Sydney. Discover more with hotelbye . One of the world's good icons and a absolutely must see in Sydney could be the Sydney Opera House, a spot is really a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the star attraction on the glittering harbour. That elegant creating, designed like covers or billowing sails, perches on a finger of area surrounded by water. Sydney is a unique place to spend your holiday therefore, don't lose the opportunity to see a good city.

Mmmmm, interesting.

Boy, oh boy, you sure have some suggestions here.

Man - you've got it tough seeing all our beautiful country has to offer. So, what I think I would do, would be to go to bush. There are plenty of quiet rural areas that have not only beautiful scenery, cosy accommodation, deliciously fresh produce, restaurants, counter lunches and dinners.

Fascinating locals loaded with knowledge and colourful stories all in quaint little areas that would love to 'put you up for a night or two' and delight in taking your money.

Seriously, here in Australia we are truly blessed to have so many wonderful places to choose from. Most people are doing it tough, and maybe, just maybe it could be your few dollars that helps them out for the week.

Places I like.

Wisemans Ferry / Spencer - so pretty, so much history, great people, nice food. RELAXING

A picnic at 'Glendonbrook,' near Singleton.

The 'Swinging Bridge,' at Cooranbong for a picnic. Not really country, but its nice and peaceful.

Jundah - the friendlest people and a GREAT PUB.

Walcha - beautiful!!!

Emmaville - countryyyyyy!

Cootamundra - beautiful people, lovely place.

I have so many other favourites, but I've run out of time to list them here. Sorry. Have fun searching.

Happy Holidays!

For a holiday I reccomend Fraser Island, off the coast of Queensland.

Whether you want a resort holiday, want to camp out or would rather rent private accomodation, Fraser can provide. A five hour drive from Brisbane and taking a barge from the mainland can lead you to a quiet world of dedicated fishermen, residents and holidayers. Alternatively, there are many Fraser day tours or longer programs that can be taken.

Fraser Island is a national park, with a huge variety of places to visit and unique sights to see. Visiting the lakes, from clear freshwater lakes such as the popular Lake Mackenzie and its smaller contemporaries to tea-tree lakes such as Ocean Lake is always fun. Due to Fraser's vastness, there is always the opportunity to find a quiet beach to visit. Eli Creek is another well publicised attraction - it has a fast current ideal for floating down on a board or wading up if you can face the current.

Fraser Island has some incredible sights too - huge sand dunes, ever changing beaches and rock pools (such as Champagne Pools, so called due to the effect of waves smashing against its protective wall of rocks), coloured sand cliffs, natural rainforest as well as temperate coastal bush, lakes, creeks and of course wildlife.

Fraser Island dingoes are among the purest of their breed in Australia. Their habitat must be respected, though, as if food scraps or other unnatural food sources such as offal are made available to them they will lose their windlife hunting instincts and timid nature and become aggressive towards humans. These beautiful animals are safe to watch from a distance. Birds and small native mammals can also be found all over the island.

Our family has holidayed at Fraser Island twice a year for fifteen years, and it has never failed to amaze us with the changing environment. Each year we experience something new.

New Zealand is just a short trip from Australia by plane and offers a diverse experiences. Skiing in Queenstown, strolling In the Art Deco City of Napier, sailing in the Bay of Islands.

Distances within New Zealand are far less to experience a wide range of different scenery and experiences. Mountains, sea, small interesting towns, easy driving are some of the benefits.

Tangalooma Wild Dolphine Resort.

I went there last year and they just had some really good programs and activities for all the family. Some of which include:

* Feeding wild dolphines

* Dugong and Sea Turtle and Dolphine watch

* Whale Watching

* Scuba Diving

* Nature and Beach walks

* Information Sessions on local marine life

* 4WD

* Sand Tabboganing

* Parasailing, etc

I had an awesome time there and was priviledged enough to witness some natural acrobatics from the wild dolphines which according to staff doesn't normally get seen

LOVE travelling my home country, I don't get to do it enough. I've been to a great camping area called Wee Jasper, about 3 hours south-west of Sydney, aprox 50kms south-west of Yass. There are a number of camping sites (WITH PROPER TOILET!!) along the river. You can loose yourself (in a good way) in the beautiful bush surrounds and even go caving - though I have not done that as yet.

Another favourite of mine is Nelson Bay. I had a holiday house there when I was younger but family sold it. I hadn't been there in about 10 years until last year. It's everything I remember and more. The locals are friendly, the water is amazing and oh what I'd give to be there right now instead of at my desk!

The last thing I will mention is the Nullarbour Plain (it means no trees and is true to its name). I cycled across the Nullarbour about 5 years ago to raise money for cancer research. My cousin and I went back in the car to look at everything we missed on the bikes - including the Great Australian Bight. UN-BE-LIEVEABLE! I looked behind me and saw nothing but red soil with a few shrubs for kms and kms. I did a 180 and saw nothing but gorgeous blue green water for kms and kms. It took my breath away. I have never seen anything like it. There were beautiful bright purple flowers growing on the cliff (be careful - there are no fences!!!). I took so many photos but they just do not do the place justice.

I went twice to Cairns and to the Red Center. I also travelled to Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin, but the Red Center attracts me much. I had a terrific experience riding on the Stuart Highway from the Katherine to Alice Springs on the local bus. I like this small town of the desert. From there not mising going to Ayers Rock and the Olgas, but I was more exciting climbing the King's Canyon: fantastic.

Some people told me to visit WA from Bunberry to Broome. Next time I hope !

hello there! well you have probably been there done that but i would have to recommend a day trip to Bribie Island. The pumicestone passage is a lovely and relaxing way to spend your day. Sitting in the sun spotting dolphins dugons etc but if you need a little more action the water out on the water is also good take the boat out for a spin... Woorim, the surf side of the island, although this is where the locals take their boards out the surf is not that high because moreton island prootects bribie island. But the views at sunset and sunrise are beaut! The island is great for a relaxing time. There are 4wd trails along the beach or inland. or why not go a bit historical and visit fort Bribie Island from WW2. Visit the Pacific Harbour golf club which is home to many species of birds and try your luck for a whole in one! There are ferry cruises in the passage with the ferry man and for places to eat at reasonable prices try the rsl the life saving club or for a meal or a snack try the food at scoopys icecreamery searving chips, hot dogs milkshakes, cakes and off course Icecream! Something in the gateway to the island try grass sliding on the hills of the local park at pebble beach, sandstone point. !*Xx*xX! THANKS

No one would recommend South Australia, but considering I live there I've seen -some of- it.

I loved Whaler's Way near Port Lincoln. Not many people.

There were no whales at the time of year I went, but the waves and the "blowholes" and... Breathtaking.

Adelaide is known as the city of churches for a good reason.

Uhm, but South Australia in my experience... ROAD RAGE!

Definitely TASMANIA anywhere else is just roads and cities compared to this place! QUEENSTOWN - you could film a million scripts around there and change the scenery in every one! Anything from a mars landing to wild water. A photographers wet deam! You cannot imagine this place without standing in it. Artists adore it, sightseers are awe struck. Touring parties never fail to comment on the friendliness of the locals. After any city in the world you will find this place such a contrast that you're bound to talk about the holiday for ever more.

Cairns to tip of Cape York by 4WD but you must only travel along the old route – The Old Overland Telegraph Road.

In a convoy of normal 4WD’s (NOT those massive tourist 4WD buses) this is a very exciting trip, with camping at unique locations along the way. One of the last true wilderness adventures left in Australia.

One of the scariest (but exciting nevertheless) things I have ever done was drive across the notorious Gunshot crossing.

I have travelled Australia for the last ten years in a motorhome, ( now settled in Brisbane) and to be honest I love this country so much it is really hard to pick just one spot, but one that does stand out in my mind would be Tasmania, the west coast, it is so wild, accessable, but natural. (Even if it was sooo cold..). On the other extreme the Atherton Tablelands, off the tourist route, so green so hot and so beautiful. Can't wait to get back out there one day.

hey hey hey

esperance in the south of western australia is awesome

the beaches are the brightest blue- a turquoise

and your usually the only one on the beach. the town and the surrounding enviroment havent been ruint by people. there are many tourist attractions e.g. Sammy the seal, a tame sea lion that lives under the famous esperance jetty(especially for fishing), Woody Island- a short trip to it on a boat lets you expirence snorkeling, wildlife, a tour, restaurant and resort(i think). many good restaurants(pigs can fly and Taylors tea rooms. theres mini golf, mini train rides, national parks, shops, wildlife, rivers, art exhibitions and the famous pink lake( its literally pink due to a certain type of rare algae)

But not to forget the highly acclaimed undiscovered beaches. the brightest blue you can think of(even on cloudy days) mixed with massive granite rocks is truly stunning, try beaches like twighlight cove and then continue traveling on and you'll see less and less people, then you will come across beaches like 11mile beach where a massive rock protects sealife from gigantic waves. I have heard people say that they have traveled the world but never seen beaches like esperances. and if it helps i dont live there. So even if you dont go here for your job, please make sure you do visit it some time.

I am from Sydney myself. Though Sydney is a nice city but I wouldn't ask you to come over here for your holidays. I wouldn't ask you to visit any city in Australia as they are almost the same as those in the western countries, more or less.

I would suggest to go to visit the bush and the wild, which is unique. Definitely something that you won't get a chance to see anywhere else. So yourself geared up and go wild on your holidays, that's the best holidays you could ever have.

Good luck mate

From one Denyer to another:

Having travelled by caravan around Australia for two years, I recommend:

QLD

MOSSMAN GORGE in the Daintree to swim in clear water with carp (not crap)-- fish,

COOKTOWN because Captain Cook needed a safe harbour to mend his ship and if he hadn't found Cooktown we probably would not have Australia as we know it.

The ATHERTON TABLELANDS -- beautiful scenery and temperate climate in rainforest

SUNSHINE COAST HINTERLAND- spectacular views from Coolum to Caloundra, quaint shopping and great outdoors bushwalks

KARUMBA for the best Barramundi & chips

Wirreanda Park in BUDERIM for ancient trees & Buderim itself with views from the hotel -- the whole area is just magnificent

NSW

Belligen/Promised Land and surrounds-- the many streams to romp and stomp in

Kangaroo Valley and Wattamola into Jerrigong/Berri -- absolutely breathtaking views

The Barringtons for all the waterfalls near the Allen River

VIC

Bright -- interesting people and atmosphere

Healesville -- interesting people and atmosphere

WA

The Great Australian Bight -- wanna feel small?

Rottnest Island -- nature

Broome/Cable Beach/Exmouth -- sunset over water & clear blue water

The Bungle Bungles at Pernululu National Park -- helicopter ride is awesome

Denham & Monkey Mia -- the restaurant made from shells and the dolphins

NT

The Olgas -- for the red dragonflies that hover there what else?

McDonnell Ranges and their waterholes -- great swimming holes

Mataranka Springs -- warm water and a feeling of ancient decadence

Cheers,

Kat Denyer

Hi Grant,

Being a local Brissy Girl, I would suggest Moreton Island.

I realise there are bigger and perhaps even more breathtaking places to visit but the locals are friendly, the beach is to die for, the blue lagoon (Freshwater) is great for a glass of wine or a beer and sit and relax and watch the wildlife. (if at the the right time of year for the spectacular display of coloured butterflies)

The view from North Point Lighthouse of Flinders reef and the island are fabulous.

The snorkeling around the 8 or 9 wrecks just off the beach which are easy to swim too, Or even the old war bunkers......there is still more to list but I will stop there and direct you too www.moretonislandhistory.com.au for everything you need to know!

We camp every year.......but the Tangalooma Resort caters for every need, and has a marine biology centre as well so you can learn everything there is too know about Moreton Island and the Bay and everything that resides there!

You can feed the Dolphins and Birds, but if your like us sit in your camping chair at the edge of the water with a beer in your hand and simply enjoy the beautiful sunset every day.

Good luck and good travelling.

Hi Grant!

I'd have to say Cairns because thats where my family and i went for a short break.

We went for 4days to Palm Cove (Novatel Rockford Resort) it was soooo relaxing and we had a good balance between day trip ( Quicksilver) and lazing by the pool. If we had a few more days we could have certainatly packed in more. Plus this time of year its still warm and its not stinger season for the barrier reef :)

Or you could go to Dubbo LOL ( I saw you at the Villiage hot bake pie thingy with the big cake! at the rotunda) when you were on sunrise. ( But im sure you'd prefer something alittle more .....exciting. Its ok i dont live there anymore)

Good Luck and enjoy your trip where ever you go! :)

Well, in my opinion it's definitely out of Melbourne or Sydney.

If you're a typical tourist, Sydney is the place to go. You go there to brag about you've seen the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and you've ridden a ferry in the Sydney Harbour.

However if you enjoy things like culture, and more life Melbourne is the place to go. It's got a huge culture, and there's just as many things to see.

I live in Melbourne and prefer it over Sydney, but I've never really visited Sydney as a tourist, only personal business.

do what I just did and take the Nullarbor Traveller camping tour - not available till September now but that would be a good time to do it.

10 days of swimming with seals, riding camels, surfing, seeing more of Australia than in any other way, camping under the stars for most of the 10 days.Goes from Adelaide to Perth through the Nullarbor and round the cape of WA.

Search Nullarbor Traveller on the net for more details!!

I love to get away from the coast, head inland/outback. I've only been to the red centre once, but cant wait to do it again. Alice springs is such an eye opener of a place, so much there for the middle of nowhere, and so many things around such as Uluru, the Olgas, kings canyon. It is such beautiful and contrasting country out there. I also think Darwin is a beautiful city with so much to do.

The "Red Centre" anytime.

Go to Tasmania...it has some...interesting places...BELIEVE IT!

Such as...

Devonport

...

um... Latrobe...(seriously! Latrobe is like, the cafe central and Reliquare is a very unusual shop, they give you free chocolate when you walk through the door. Mmmm...)

But if all else fails, go to the Blue Mountains, they have some awesome sights and quaint shops/cafes.

Whatever place you choose will be absolutely fabulous, because no matter where you go in Australia, the people are friendly and the experiences unique.

Godd luck choosing!! XD

well, as ive only been to caloundra, i would say go there... i loved it there. absolutely beautiful. beaches are nice, kid safe. it has a nice vactiony feel to the whole area.. probably not the most elaborate place to visit in australia but i enjoyed it. also the surrounding areas have some really cool attractions, like the big pineapple, the australia zoo, just up the road is mooloolaba and there they have bellisamo (sp?) and the food there is incredible... some of the best ive had since ive been in australia.

There's this place in Queensland called Canarvon Gorge. It is an Aboriginal culture site. It's really quite amazing climbing all these bluff and seeing all the raw culture. When we went, we took a small detour into Emerald and Rubyvale on our way back and it was awesome! Emerald and Rubyvale are the centre of saphire fossicking(can't spell that). It was really fun to get in there and find saphires, and then you get to keep them! Lot's of jeweller shops around the town will also polish, shape and set the saphire's for you for a cheaper price than anywhere else because they do it so regularly! So not only do will you get to have fun, you get to bring home a saphire ring for your partner and can boast about how you found it yourself!

Tasmania. The whole state! But most particularly, the west and southwest. One of the last great untouched wilderness areas in the world, and absolutely gob-smacking STUNNING.

You can get to most areas on the west coast by road. It's extremely slow going, due to the steep undulations and constant winding road - you need to allow at least twice as much travelling time as you normally would for the equivalent distance anywhere else. You also have to allow for the road often being wet - it is rainforest after all. But my husband and I did the trip in a medium-sized motorhome with no real problems at all.

The southwest is a different story. There are very few roads and very little of the wilderness there is accessible at all - and what is accessible is by walking. Depending on how adventurous you are, there are a few ways you can get to the wilderness areas - plane, helicopter, boat... but if you really want to see pristine wilderness, you're going to have to do it on foot. Take a swag, a map, warm clothing and plenty of food and drink. Oh yes, and make sure you have a National Parks pass. It's hard work, but it's SO worth it, if you're fit and healthy.

Another must-see place in Tas is the Freycinet Peninsula on the south east coast, with its spectacular pink granite mountains and cliffs. Another great place to visit on foot! And while you're there, make sure to visit Wineglass Bay, either by boat or plane, but preferably by doing the hike. The hike is the hardest but by far the most rewarding way of doing it.

I also recommend a tiny little town southwest of Hobart called Snug, just for its beautiful beach and bay. The water is like glass there, and you can see all the peninsulas and inlets to the east. At dusk the perfectly calm water turns into liquid silver and is absolutely mesmerising!

Cradle Valley is another wonderful place in Tas. There are many visitors there, however, but if you don't mind that, the scenery is awesome, particularly Cradle Mountain itself.

My husband and I visited Tasmania for just 11 days last September for our honeymoon, and it has left an indelible impression upon both of us. Unlike most of the mainland states, there just isn't anywhere in Tasmania that's NOT worth seeing! We can't wait to go back.

I believe Tasmania is the jewel in Australia's crown.

I think the best place would be a quiet little country town near maffra in victoria called tinamba. They have a quiet little pub there and out the back they have accomodation in a self contained house with rooms and all amentities and in the centre a nice big indoor heated pool and spa. Breakfast by 10am included in one night stay for only $50. It is a pefect place to relax and let your hair down and during the day, tour the countryside in your car or 4wd with wineries and rivers to fish. It's the perfect escape!

I now live in Perth but every year I holiday to Kal, not just to see friends but for the atmosphere... It's amazing how I always saw Kalgoorlie/Kambalda as a place I could never let go of because I grew up there, but now I see it as something so much more. Around every corner there is something different.

I may be a Canberran, but I really recommend Cairns in Far North Queensland. The climate in winter is beautiful, there are tours to the Great Barrier Reef, and the wildlife there is fantastic! I haven't been in a while, but I have been going up there since before I can remember and I've never hated it.

The West Coast WIlderness Railway in Strahan, Tasmania. It's a wicked half day train trip through a cool temperate rainforest in an original 100+ year old train. Super pretty. There's a first class carriage (premium??, premiere?? ) where they serve non-stop Tassie wines, Tassie food and you get better views from that carriage.

It was a sweet day. Strahan is really pretty too. There's a boat cruise there that's really nice.

Hi Grant,

I went to Palm Cove for my wedding/ honeymoon, My husband and i got married in the Beautiful Crystal Cascade Rainforest.

Palm Cove is about 20 mins from Cairns and about 30 mins from Port Douglas.

The whole atmosphere of the place was fantastic, it was quiet laid back, but young and upbeat. The food and the amount of food was amazing , every morning we would walk from our accommmodation to a place called Cockys a huge breaky and right on the water front, it was a aweomse way to start the day.

A holiday it supposed ot be l;aid back, and relaxing and this is the place to have it. Trust me it is PERFECT !

Good Luck on your trip, Bring back some Sunshine to Melbourne :-)
2008-06-04 03:54:58 UTC
The Gold Coast has a great atmosphere, the sunshine coast is more laid back but also beautiful. Maleny has a beautiful rainforest and lovely scenery. Hervey Bay I really enjoyed when I went there, Tin Can Bay has gorgeous clear waters. Cairns has a great atmosphere. Atherton Tablelands was beautiful, lush and green. Perth to me was a combo of vintage and hippy, loved it! Toowoomba is a nice town with beautiful gardens, that's if you don't mind the breeze.

For an adventure-lover like yourself Port Dennison/Dongara may be a little on the dull side.

It is just a nice little town, right on the beach, but doesn't have heaps of tourists (unlike places such as Coffs Harbour). If you stay at the Caravan park you can actually beach fish from your verandah, and there are a few holiday houses for rent. Another good thing is that the Kailis Crayfish Trawlers sail in and out of here, so you can always pick up so super fresh crays at really cheap prices (we paid around $12 each).

Hey Grant,

I live in the Hunter Valley, NSW and it is extremely beautiful. I have a friend that works at the Crowne Plaza at Lovedale, and she said it is an amazing place especially for a getaway. There are many great activities that you can do, one of my favourite is visiting Hunter Valley Gardens, it truly is a gorgeous place, you can have lunch there or if you like have a nice picnic, whatever you chose there are plenty of things to do in the Hunter Valley. I hope this has helped.

Cairns. It is in north queensland. this is the best spot for a hoilday. It is basicly on the door step on the rainforest and the beachs. There is heaps of cruises that can take you to the great barrier reef - or the main islands that is around it.

There is many places to visit and its not as busy as the captail cities but still has the same atmosphere. It it the greatest place to visit
2008-06-04 23:19:07 UTC
Come to the sunshine coast in QLD because it is the most beautiful place in australia. it has the nicest beaches and shops and everything that you need! i probably though would recommend coming here for a break or a simple holiday more the a sight-seeing place. but if you want to sight see, i highly recommend melbourne or sydney.

Hi Grant, I am in West Oz and I dont think you will get any better than Margaret River W.A. The beaches are magnificent. The scenery heavenly. Its a great wine making region. The town itself still has a lovely country feel and there is a great choice of accomodation, from beach shack to luxury spa to self contained, each with a choice of settings such as beach, bush, forest, cosmopolitan. The only stress you will have is choosing where you want to stay. Happy Holidays.

you have probably gone on your holiday already cos it was like a month ago, but I live at a place called Birubi Point its in Port stephens which as you may know is beautiful... the beaches have great surf and you can drive on the beach all the way to Newcastle.... even when its peak summer Birubi is still not crazy crazy busy! and we have a very special sunset here...it actually sets over the ocean which is beautiful as the sun sets in the west!( we are on the east coast) its just the way we are situated!!! hope you find a lovely place to holiday!!! PS soooooo jealous of your job! good luck!

I recommend that you go to Noosa, QLD because the beaches there are beautiful, as are the surrounding areas.

My other recommendation would be Tasmania. If you go there, it's a must that you travel on the Sprit of Tasmania. The boat ride is so smooth. Things to do in Tassie include -

+Going up Mt. Wellington

+Doing a tour of the Cadbury factory

+Cheese factories (these include tastings and cheese you can buy. A really nice cheese is the Wine Glass Chedder)

Hope this helps.

It doesn't matter where you go for a holiday, who you go with determines how good it was. The setting is just the background, the company and the interaction are what sets a holiday apart! So just pack your bags, grab your loved-ones and go wherever the dart lands, and most importantly; leave your worries at the door!

Please use darts only as directed. And buy a pretty big map.

So many people have answered this so my answer may or may not be helpful but since I live in Australia and have been to so many places in Australia, I think I may be some help:

Melbourne is EXCELLENT for shopping (and the city is absolutely beautiful at night), Sydney is good for the beach and nice restaurants. Adelaide is such a gorgeous city and very upper class and nice. But if you want somewhere really warm and tropical, go to QLD, it always has nice weather and once you go there you wouldn't want to leave! In QLD, some places I'd travel to are : The Whitsundays, Coolum (On the Sunshine Coast) and Noosa. They are such beautiful and breathtaking places, you seriously would want to live there! The beaches are perfect too. Good luck with finding a place and have fun!! =]

Karajini National Park in the Pilbara. Without a doubt.

Forgot to add the scenery is spectacular, the bush walks are brilliant, there are excellent photo opportunities, the camping facilities are pretty good, the waterfalls are cool and inviting and there are so many of them. Its a really great relaxing holiday to take and probably the best place I have been in the world, and I have been to a few places. Its great for single people, couples, families and everyone else inbetween!!

well i would suggest going to NSW. i was at a boarding school located in Walla Walla, NSW for about a year. If you like really small country towns then i suggest you go there. The farmers out there are really friendly and there are some amazing places to visit. People who are from big cities may think that small towns are boring, but i found Walla really fun. If you stay in Albury located about 45 minutes from Walla, then there are some AWESOME walks to the waterfalls and great nature trails. there is great shopping and awesome fun so i suggest outback NSW:)

I think it's up to where or what you like. For example for hiking go to Halls Gap or Arkaroola [which is near Leigh creek]. If you are into scenery then go to WA when the wild flowers are out. But if you are into the opposite of nature- then go to Andamooka, it is 600kms away from Roxby Downs, they have a lot of mines there and like Cooper Pedy some people live under ground.

For me it's either- Halls Gap; Port Fairy; Cowell; Arkaroola; Andamooka.

Good luck finding a place to travel to.

You cannot imagine this place without standing in it. Artists adore it, sightseers are awe struck. Touring parties never fail to comment on the friendliness of the locals. After any city in the world you will find this place such a contrast that you're bound to talk about the holiday for ever more.

Travel via the Great Ocean Road to Warrnambool, the drive along the Great Ocean Road is spectacular and you can see things such as the 12 apostles.

Travel to Warrnambool, the nicest town in Victoria, ( i think). There is heaps to do in Warrnambool, Flagstaff Hill, Mini Golf, lovely parks and gardens and at the moment the Whales are in to give birth to their babies and the Whales and unbelievable. We take our 5 boys there every year, they get so excited to see the whales. Hope you decide to come to Warrnambool you will love it. Have fun

I reckon you should stay in Forster in Central NSW You should stay right next to the beach its beautiful and sometimes in the morning and sunset you can see the dolphins come up to the surface of the lake. There are also dolphin tours. There are also great fish to catch like flatheads and breams. There is also a chance you might catch the flathead king its about 2 metres long!!

Wtree/Gelantipy, easy drive from Bairnsdale Vic, Buddhist retreat, horse riding in 'man from snowy river' country then detour to McKillops bridge- oldest wooden bridge still in use in Vic and the best views of snowy river or use the road that ends up at Jindabyne for some skiing.

accom at gelantipy and jindy......

enjoy the drive....PS if you take the mckillops option beware there is an 11km section with no passing...even oncoming cars!!!! sometimes you have to reverse around corners to get to a wide enough section!!all the more fun!!

Hey Grant,

I think you should travel to the Blue Mountains, NSW for a holiday. It has the most beautiul scenery and if were using it for a TV show, you could use the point that the Blue Mountains is on the World Heritage List.

Hope you decide to come to the Blue Mountains, Suzi

Bundaberg, Queensland.

Its a great place with a lot to offer besides the obvious attractions (who could forget Bundaberg Rum Distillery) - it also has a lot of beautiful beaches.

Its tourism catch phrase is "Bundaberg - where the Barrier Reef begins" and if you get a chance to go diving you can see some of the underwater beauty.

Watch out for 'drop bears' though.

Enjoy!

Newcastle, no two ways about it.

It's the 6th largest city in Australia, second largest in NSW and mostly overlooked due to the Sydneycentric attitude which abounds.

Heaps of fascinating travel destinations are no more than a few hours away from Newcastle such as the vineyards, the Barrington Tops, the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and of course our own world class beaches and tourist facilities right at the foot of the city.

Budgewoi on the central coast is one of the last tourist resort towns in the world. Old people and kids still walk chihuahuas after dark with no fear of attack, you can let your kids walk to and from the beach, knowing it's a good neighbourhood they're walking through, and most of the shops shut by 6 on a Sunday night. It's like stepping back 20 years. luv it.

Moving away from the big cities.....the snowy mountains are an amazing place to visit. There are so many beautiful little towns, lakes in summer, snow in winter, the amazing mountain ranges including kosiosco and national parks.

As for cities, I dont think you can go past Adelaide. It is a beautiful clean city and has fantastic beaches

Tasmania is a great place to Holiday. At this time of year(winter) Cradle mountain for walks and snow. If its a summer holiday go around early Jan, head down to Hobart for the taste of Tasmania Festival. The Cascade Brewery is a must. Oh and the wineries! I drove around and did my own winery tour! It was great! Ninth Island, Bay of fires...

Hi Grant,

There is this little village in Far North Queensland near Port Douglas called Julatten, the locals call it the centre of the universe. It is quiet and relaxing with a couple of little places to stay. There are many things to do and see whilst staying here. There are multiple fresh clean creeks to swim in, birds to watch and much more.

Come on up sometime or at least look it up.

I think you should get in a car or camper van and just take any road you haven't been down before..

DONT take a map. You will see towns and sites you just haven't seen before.

We did New Zealand this way. People thought we were crazy. We found places that the locals hadn't been to.

I will do Australia this way one day.

Have a great holiday

Queensland, the great south east for the best beaches, Melbourne for the culture and restaurant, Sydney for the hussle and bussle and night life. Shopping for all three states. Adelaide for the serenity. Tasmania for the adventures, Perth for Magaret River and markets and I am sure you will find out more about the places from people, when you get there! Have fun

Sydney because there are no natural disasters like tornadoes or tsunamis, there are great beaches, heaps of shops, lots of people, lots of things to do and it has fun stuff like Luna Park, Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife World.. Also the Harbour Bridge is great fun to go to & climb and seeing plays at The Opera House is awesome.

The Gold Coast is pretty good. While you are there you can visit one or all of thetheme parks. You can go surfing on the beach. The reason why I mentioned this is because you can always find something to do while you are there.

Also you can go to Sydney and visit the Sydney Opera House and go over the Harbour Bridge and visit Paddy's Markets.

Then there is Brisbane. In Brisbane you can ride the trains or go visit Queen Street Mall.

Then there is the beautiful Tasmania with lots of history. Port Arthur is one plce with its ruins and full of history. Then you have Hobart.

I would recommend three places:

1: Whitsundays and all of tropical North Queensland;

2: North Stradbroke Island (South Gorge!); and

3: Tasmania

They all have beautiful natural scenery :)

We have wild animal parks, great places to hike, Bruny Island, beautiful beaches, unrestricted views, great seafood, and the friendliest people in Australia. It is green and lush and we have lots of tropical birds, and beautiful gardens. Come visit Hobart and all the other wonderful places in Tassie. You will never want to go home.

I say go to Port Lincoln and go on the Rodney Fox Shark Experience. What a way to spend a holiday, face to face with one of the worlds most powerful and mysterious creatures the great white shark. Imagine being submerged in a cage face to face with one of these magnificent animals. I can think of nothing better. Do you have what it takes?

let`s go together and i`ll show you how to have fun ...any-where we`d go. THAT`s a promise.

make sure you see your own Country 1st , get the Culture and the Heritage and THEN go Over-seas.

that`s the `real` way...!

I would recommend you to go to Uluru. It would be good to go here as it is one of Australias Heritage sites and is also an indigenous sacred land. There would be heaps of aborigional art sites on display and great tours. There would be may photos to take and heaps to brag about on postcards and when u get home.

Hope this helps

Adelaide. No one gives it enough credit. I've been everywhere in Aus and its the best setup, especially along brighton/glenelg. A lot of it is set along the beach rather that city orientated in other places. I assume you may have travelled there already though..

I would say go to Airlie Beach (Town) and take a trip to Whitehaven Beach in the "Whitsundays" (Islands) which has dazzling white sand and turquoise water, and huge lizards called "Lace Monitors" which will come to share your barbecue. And you can swim with the brilliant fishes just off there, too. It's heaven!

PS I live in Victoria, which has plenty of beauty too.

why is it that whenever anyone comes to victoria they go to melbourne or mildura or the welkl known tourist destinations,

why not go to those towns that are not so well known, why not Walhalla, or even my home town of Toongabbie it was the gate way to Walhalla back in the gold rush times, or any of the surrounding towns. Not every town in latrobe valley/gippsland are like Moe, Morwell & Traralgon, infested with drugs and alcohol. some of the smaller towns are actually quite sweet.

You need to stay at the Peaceful Bay Caravan Park! They are awsome people who bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. Both times we have camped there we have run into travelling bands..being able to join in with a live jam with such creative and intuitive people just makes the stay all the more special.

my favourite place to go for holidays is sussex inlet in NSW. it may not seem like a great place, but my family and i stay at these old little cottages right on the beach at the end of sussex inlet. They are simple but thats all you need there becasue you spend the whole day outside in the sun or down at the beach. its so popular that there is a waiting list to get a cabin there, but it is all its worth, especially if you spend the time with family and/or friends

:)

Albany, Denmark, Walpole, Pemberton and Margaret River.

There is so much to see and do, to name a few: Wineries, Tree top walk, fishing, day spas and health resorts. It is brilliant around August September because all the wild flowers are out and blooming but to find out more, visit www.australiassouthwest.com.au

I hope you consider these destinations, you will love it.

come to launceston, tasmania. or tour all around tasmania, for that matter. if you want a nice, quiet holiday with lots of spectacular sunsets and breathtaking views, then tasmania is the place for you. come in early summer, when things are just beginning to heat up. winter is a harsh and cold atmosphere, but interesting nonetheless.

investigate the options for arriving at tasmania, and i assure you that you will never forget the experience.

thanks for asking this question, mr. denyer. i appreciate it.

Northern Australia is beautiful. The colours are magnificent. The scenary is just unreal. Also the scenary in South West Tasmania is magnificent. If you wanna live longer, come here (Tassie) and breath some of our air.

Queensland is good if you like girls in bikinis, lol, and if you do go to Sydney, please please please see the Quay. It's so beautiful. It's my favourite place in Sydney. And you get to see the Opera House and bridge at the same time!

My suggestion is to travel the West side of Tasmania, doing the wine tastings, steam train at Queenstown-(fantastic),drop in at mining towns, heaps of water falls to see, caves to go into across Devon port to Launceston, antique shops to peruse, and the people....get them to tell Victorian jokes-they come to life.

i like nothing more then wind down when on a holiday.

take in what nature has to offer in a beautiful peaceful area with good wine and good friends.

thats why i recommend you check out the South Burnett Area of Queensland. We have many Winery's to taste test, a lot of history to discover (mostly of Peanut or Bean Farming, along with Woodcutting) loads or art galleries and a beautiful rain forest that will relax you as soon as you lay eyes on it.

there's a lot to do out this way, but i personally prefer to do as little as possible when i'm on holiday!

come and see the area for yourself, you will never forget it.

Hi Grant!

Please take no notice of the people that have little more to do with their time than lay insult to people who they feel threatened by! It is obvious they have never met you!

To those people that did think it heroic to take a pot shot at our Grant Denyer, take a look at the Community Guidelines!

And stick to the point of the qestion!

Back to that, i am a little biased because i live here, but i dont think you can do any better than Tasmania!

Tasmania has some absolutely stunning natural attractions, from the north to the south!

My recommendations, Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair National Park - enjoy a range of activities, but most popular is bushwalking.

The north east has some beautiful areas, my favourite being Binalong Bay and Cosy's. You cannot get sand as white or water as blue! Stunning!

Down south, Hastings is an eye opener! Go caving, then relax in the thermal pool!

Tasmania is unique! A place to unwind, a place to find yourself!

Certainly a trip well worth taking!!!!

I have seen lots of answers here, but the one place that hasn't been mentioned is our beautiful island state of Tasmania. Tassie has something for everyone, but doesn't have traffic, lots of people or the craziness of the big cities on the mainland like Sydney and Melbourne.

Sorry Grant (you're a champion and all, but...) no way known would I ever advertise any of my favourite locations.

So many of my favourite places no longer exist due to the cancer of tourism and the resulting interstate migration of former tourists. Who visited somewhere, realised that they could buy it and saw the "potential" that it had. Rather than the beauty that was already there.

How about checking out your own backyard?!

It always amazes me the amount of people I meet who have travelled extensively, but know nothing about their own home town.

I'd suggest you do some research on your own City, and then do a walking tour (if possible) to visit and see some of the historical and important features of your own home.
2008-06-09 02:22:02 UTC
Falls Creek and Mt Hotham... no, you can't only choose one... :D and even if you've never boarded (or skied) before, Falls Creek is a great place to start, as well as having advanced runs. It's where I learned to board!

Isn't it amazing that people are so narrow minded and give thumbs down to the most spectacular and beautiful places in Australia.

As a family, we love Tasmania.

As a single bloke I loved FNQ. ^ ^

that most hear of one side/or area of the hills here and fail to see the other side, for instance Kalamunda and surrounding area has different views and places compared to the Roleystone/Kelmscott/Mt.Nasura area, so really you must see both, then there is the Brigadoon Hills area which is spectacular with the Avon river .

if there is a place you have always wanted to see and did not have the chace so this is it, with the rigth kind of money.

A holiday is a time when you go somewhere just to have e.g fun, adven, take things out of our mind and to explo so i would say think about it carfully cause you want to go and have fun and to always thinks take things off your mind
2008-06-07 02:52:23 UTC

I'd have to say the Port Stephens area in NSW!

So so pretty, the water is so clear and snorkelling is so much fun!

You must go on a Dolphin cruise and the dolphins swim with the boat and its just such a pretty area!

Can't wait to go back there again!!

Have a good trip!
2014-09-14 07:54:50 UTC
a tour, restaurant and resort(i think). many good restaurants(pigs can fly and Taylors tea rooms. theres mini golf, mini train rides, national parks, shops, wildlife, rivers, art exhibitions and the famous pink lake( its literally pink due to a certain type of rare algae)
2008-06-03 23:17:15 UTC
Surfer's Paridiseon the Gold Coast. It's beautifull and the shops are local. You have the theme parks a short drive away as well

I would go stay at Chillagoe Cabins in the semi-outback town of Chillagoe near Cairns in QLD. The host does caving tours that are fantastic. Now I maybe fat and 50 but what a hoot pushing myself into holes in the ground to discover under ground wonderful limestone Caves. Chillagoe has 700 limestone caves, staggering!

Also the area is famous for old mines and also marble! We saw a typical Aussie creek except it's banks were made of marble. Ah the old miners had a touch of luxury with the natural marble baths!

Then there is the local character that has a ford museum in this little old mining town, complete with signs that are typical Australian blunt and straight to the point warnings.

Write your name on the walls of the local pub, take a snap of the next fuel sign (very far lol), help feed the wildlife the hosts of Chillagoe cabins care for, share a home brew with them and take home some great memories.

Plus not far from Port Douglas or Palm Cove to extend you break with a little bit of pampering and a cruise to the GBR. What could be better.

Now if FNQ tourism send me a cheque for promoting the region I may be able to afford to join you!

it is great (because i am a local)

and it is so beautiful it has whales, dolphins if your lucky seals

and perfect beaches!

green fields beach is great!

and we have really fun dolphin cruises where you can see the playful dolphins at the front of the boat and basically all around! plus you can go snorkling and scuba diving!

you should come and visit!

The hills areas of Perth are a nicely kept secret, with secret restaurants, unusual Inns to stay at and of course beautiful scenery.

Also these arrears have beautiful picnic and leisure spots for the romantic and family orientated, like lakes, dams and surround.

The mistakes made for the un-initiated is

that most hear of one side/or area of the hills here and fail to see the other side, for instance Kalamunda and surrounding area has different views and places compared to the Roleystone/Kelmscott/Mt.Nasura area, so really you must see both, then there is the Brigadoon Hills area which is spectacular with the Avon river .

I have lived in the Hills Kelmscott and for 20 years and its quite a beautiful kept national secret! Only 30 minutes from the City.

Whyle im on this site, i would also like to ask a request can you for the person that has not been before, do a whole show on where the busses and trams in different parts of Melbourne actualy take you ? say so someone can actualy do a two weeker holiday instead of a rushed 4 or 5 days! ta.Like a holiday with train/buss/tram only!

It would definatly be worthwile to take a ride in the Huon Jet boat before heading down to look at the Tahune Airwalk. You could also check out the Hollybank Treetops Adventure and the Giant Forest Slide at Dismal Swamp. In Tasmania you could go from the top of a mountain to the oceans edge within an hour!

visit the Great Ocean Road and the towns and rainforests around there. =) there's lots of little treasure along the way. Apollo Bay is awesome, as well as Lorne. Just try not to go near Lorne during the holiday season.... lol Stay at Torquey or Apollo Bay instead.

I recently toured the out ridge peak with five of my closest buddies we congregated south of the fish wall off east end . Then headed north for four days on the smoke trail of tunabarrabran, then on the fifth day we reached cunulwong, five hundred and thirty eight miles west of palmfig. It wasn't the best week of my life because i had diorea but the location was fantastic!

Mallacoota Victoria.

Its a well kept secret. There's a lake, beaches, fishing.

It's a small country town where country meets ocean.

A 4 hour drive from Canberra, 7 hours from Melbourne. It also has its own airport.

I go there because my parents own a motel, and my 11 month old son loves getting dirty in the sand and crawling around on the beach.

hi Grant, my name is katie and i'm from Queensland

I would reccomend Victor Harbour South Australia i went to adelaide for a taekwondo competition and mum and i travelled down there-i reckon you'll love it as we stayed above a pub/hotel for a really cheap price-overlooking the water and we went to theor little penguin show-you can ride across the bridge to the island where they come ashore in an old style horse and carriage and then see the penguins for $5 and et right up close and personal with them - i mean i have been to phillip island and watched them come ashore there but victor harbour offers a guided tour of the island and being able to get sometimes withing a metre of the little things

great hospitality in victor harbour

i am sure you would love it there!

Hi:

I have seen lots of answers here, but the one place that hasn't been mentioned is our beautiful island state of Tasmania. Tassie has something for everyone, but doesn't have traffic, lots of people or the craziness of the big cities on the mainland like Sydney and Melbourne.

You will never want to go home.

the gold coast queensland. im sorry but it is my favourite place in the entire world. i live about 3 hours away from there. my dream would be to live there and raise my family closer to the beach life. nothing better than having children appriciate the beach and marine life.

there is so much to see and do within a stones throw away in every direction.

I like the far south coast of NSW, from Narooma down to the north east coast of Victoria. Very unspoilt area and I think I should have kept my big mouth shut!

I would like to go to WA, up the north west area, which I expect is also unspoilt.

Tasmania!!!

West Coast of Tasmania. Strachan; The Henty Dunes; Queenstown. Just the sheer magnificence and contrasts you find there.

North West, just follow the road onto Sister Beach, Boat Harbour.

I could go on naming so many beautiful places on the Isle, but I won't because it make me sad I am in Melbourne and over there :(

Have a wonderful trip where ever you go!

We like to travel the whole of Aussie as we cant quite decide what is better than the rest. I love the Ocean Drive in Vic.The Renmark,Mildura area SA,South Coast WA and North Coast WA ,Bendigo,Ballarat VIC,Alice and Darwin NT.Upper North Coast QLD have left out NSW as we live here and have become used to the attractions as most people tend to take for granted where they live.We suit our travel to Weather conditions in those parts that we travel to, ie WA in Spring NT in Winter.

I strongly recommend _at least_ a week in Melbourne and a week in Sydney.. Tons to do in both cities, transport gets you everywhere in Melb, Sydney reminds me so much of San Francisco.. and I'm a native Californian, 27+ years.. I felt so home in Sydney, but Melbourne is my mistress.. lol

all depends on what sort of holiday you want but i found the best place was shute harbour and tour the reef its great and the islands south mole and hook island you dont want to come home but its rather quiet
2008-05-01 01:12:56 UTC
Queensland mate.

Get out of the cold of NSW or Victoria and have your summer during our winter!

I had a few friends up from NSW in the middle of winter last year, they went to the beach and they were stunned at the water tempreture. No locals were in the water due to the water been so damn cold but these guys said that QLD beaches in winter are like NSW beaches in summer (water tempreture wise)

so if your looking to go for a surf or go into the wilderness of the hinterland, go to the Gold or Sunshine Coast.

Gold Coast has the theme parks and the Sunshine Coast is more laid back with markets and quiet cafes everywhere.

Hi Grant,

I know this is going to sound biased (since I am from Victoria), but I think you should come to Victoria for your holiday.

The following is a must see and do list of all the things Melbourne, and the broader state of Victoria has to offer (well the majority of things to do)

The Royal Melbourne Zoo http://www.zoo.org.au/MelbourneZoo

Werribee Open Range Zoo http://www.zoo.org.au/WerribeeOpenRangeZ...

Healesville Sanctuary http://www.zoo.org.au/HealesvilleSanctua...

Melbourne Aquarium http://www.melbourneaquarium.com.au/

Melbourne Museum http://museumvictoria.com.au/MelbourneMu...

National Gallery of Victoria http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au

The State Library of Victoria http://www.slv.vic.gov.au

Luna Park http://www.lunapark.com.au/

Puffing Billy http://www.puffingbilly.com.au/

Fairy Park in Anakie http://www.fairypark.com/

Queen Victoria Market (weekend market)http://www.qvm.com.au/home.php

Scienceworks http://museumvictoria.com.au/Sciencework...

Melbourne Observation Deck http://www.melbournedeck.com.au/

Eureka Tower http://www.eurekatower.com.au

Eureka SkyDeck http://www.eurekalookout.com.au

Rialto http://www.rialto.com.au/

Sovereign Hill http://www.sovereignhill.com.au/

The Old Melbourne Gaol (have a self guided tour or for something more scary go on a night tour (tickets fort this can be bought from ticketek 13 28 49 ) http://www.oldmelbournegaol.com.au

Federation Square http://www.fedsquare.com

You also gotta go to Phillip Island and check out the Penguin Parade. While in Phillip Island go to Amaze 'n' Things http://www.amazenthings.com.au/

If you are hanging out to do some shopping whilst in Melbourne, not only can you find some bargains at the Queen Victoria Market, but DFO have heaps of designer brands at bargain prices, so you gotta check that out too. http://www.dfo.com.au

Don't forget to go down to Lygon Street for a bite to eat (there are heaps of Italian restaurants and there is an ice cream shop there (sorry I forgot the name of it) where they sell the best ice cream in Melbourne)

If cakes and pastries are more to your liking, then a definate place you gotta check out is Acland Street in St Kilda. This is a street filled with the best cakes and pastries in Melbourne.

Chinatown is also a place you should check out if you are into Chinese cuisine. Not only this, but you can also go to the Chinese museum, and participate in a Chinatown heritage walk http://www.chinatownmelbourne.com.au/

If you are after a unique dining experience, why don't you try Hard Rock Cafe http://www.hardrockcafe.com.au and T.G.I . Fridays http://www.tgifridays.com.au

For a real memorable dining experience, spend the night at the Titanic Theatre Restaurant in Williamstown (this is worth the money you pay) http://www.titanic.com.au/html/home.html or the Colonial tramcar restaurant http://www.tramrestaurant.com.au/

You can also grab a bite to eat as well as a floorshow at the many theatre restaurants located in and around the city such as Dracula's and Witches in Britches just to name a few.

If you feel in the mood for some serious gambling (its your choice), the place to go is Crown Casino. At Crown you can also grab a bite to eat at any of their 40 restaurants, cafes or snack bars, take in a movie at Village Cinema which is located inside Crown Casino, play ten pin bowling at King Pin bowling lounge, play interactive games at Galactic Circus, dance the night away at Fusion and Club Odeon nightclubs or just SHOP, SHOP, SHOP at exclusive designer boutiques such as Versace, Louis Vuitton or Prada just to name a few and other general fashion stores http://www.crowncasino.com.au/

Victoria can be called the sporting capital of Australia as it holds the Melbourne Cup (don't forget to go to one of the weekly race meets at either Flemington, Caulfield

or Moonee Valley while you are in Melbourne), The AFL Grand Final, The Australian Open, The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park and the MotoGP at Phillip Island just to name a few sporting events.

You can also find out of things to see and do at Docklands and Waterfront http://www.docklands.com

There are plenty of other things that you can do while in Victoria, just go to the visit victoria website for more details http://www.visitvictoria.com.au or http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au (that sounded like an advertisement just then * ha ha*)

Enjoy your stay in Melbourne and have lots of fun!!!!
